The purpose of the Advanced Equipment Distinctive Speciality is to provide a high degree on understanding of the function, repair and serving requirements of Scuba equipment. This is not a scuba equipment-servicing course. However those wishing to go on and become equipment technicians are likely to benefit from this course.  This course does go into considerable detail regarding the operation and servicing techniques. This course is designed to give all PADI professionals and more experienced divers a good understanding of the workings principles of diving equipment. 

What do you get?

2-3 days of Classroom / workshop theory sessions covering

    1. Cylinders and Valves
    2. Introduction to First stages
    3. Piston First stages
    4. Membrane First stages
    5. First Stages Extra’s
    6. Second stages
    7. Regulator Freezing
    8. Testing in the Field
    9. Periodic Maintenance
    10. Rebreathers & Nitrox
    11. Inflators & BCDs
    12. Instruments
    13. Others including wetsuits, wet boots, fins & dry suits

With plenty of hands on so you can really see how it all works. At least one first stage, one-second stage and one BCD inflator are stripped and e-assembled in detail in front of students. You get hands on while stripping & re-assembling equipment. We will also show you a large selection of new and used parts and spares so you can what they look like and to show both Good and bad examples of equipment ware.

Eight Knowledge Reviews are required to be completed by the end of the course and
A minimum of 75% must be scored to show mastery in either final exam A or B

Where is it? and When?

We run courses 2-3 times though out the year so give us a call or pop in to book a course.

Classroom / workshop sessions will be in our purpose built classrooms at our Dive Centre in St. Leonards.

How do I do it? - What do I need to do?

  • You need to be at least 18 years old, A PADI Pro or an experienced diver with some engineering savvy.
  • Give us a call or pop into the shop and book it. 


What's Next?

We do also provide follow on internship pre technician course.
