Having had a few questions and discussions at the range these last few weeks, I thought it appropriate to take a more in-depth look at the Walther Reign bullpup by Umarex / Walther. The specifications cite a 2.3kg weight, which if true on production models will see this as being one of the lighter and most accessible bullpup configuration rifles yet. The side lever appears to be a little forward of the trigger housing, which in comparison to other bullpup's on the market should make them that little bit less alien to use for those of us that have always used a traditional rear bolt action.
The vented buttpad, trigger interruption safety and pistol grip look like time proven designs, with a stippling effect to increase grip where it's needed. The air cylinder, fully enclosed in the stock gives a good looking palm swell at the forend, which features an integrated picatinny accessory rail for the usual bipods and other accessories. Again this rifle seems to be built around proven concepts with an advancement where possible to raise the game between the competing bullpups on sale now.
Personally I think the small tweaks to the layout of the rifle are very welcome and for those on the fence between a traditional rifle and a bullpup should seriously consider handling one of these before making a decision, as this could very well change a few minds.
The Walther Reign is expected Summer 2019 with an RRP of £779.95 (prices subject to change by the manufacturer)
